Save Black Mesa 1971

Save Black Mesa poster; photograph by Marc, April 1971. There were two posters; the first was Indian Power with the photographer as Richard West, which was Marc’s pseudo-name as a contributing editor to the Navajo underground newspaper Dine-Bahane. This protest preceded Greenpeace’s Amchitka protest by nearly six months, making it the first modern-day environmental confrontational protest according to historian Alston Chase in his book, In A Dark Woods.
